DOES HENNESSEY’S NEW MAMMOTH 400 PROVE THAT WE’RE ENTERING INTO A NEW ERA OF SPORT TRUCKS?

We miss proper road-focussed sport trucks. We’re talking about things like the GMC Syclone from the early 1990s and the Ford F-150 SVT Lightning and Dodge Ram SRT-10 from the 2000s. Recent trends have seen manufacturers and tuners sticking chunky tyres and lift kits on everything to satisfy the overlanding craze, but there’s surely space for some slammed suspension and deep bodykits too?

Hennessey clearly thinks so, because it has partnered with Fox Factory to produce the limited run Mammoth 400. Just look at those racing stripes and that burnout picture. Heck yeah.

The Mammoth 400 has been produced to celebrate the end of the 5.7-litre HEMI V8, with Ram dropping the iconic engine after 2024. Interestingly for Hennessey though, it has left the engine well alone meaning you get the same 390bhp and 410lb ft of torque as the standard truck. Can someone check whether any pigs have started to sprout wings?

What you get instead is a very fancy suspension setup with Fox shocks and RideTech lowering springs to improve handling, plus a new Borla sports exhaust with carbon fibre tips to allow that HEMI to properly clear its lungs.

There’s the full bodykit too with new bumpers, side skirts and splitters, while the wheels are 22in and can be painted satin or gloss black. The rest of the exterior paint “celebrates American independence with patriotic colours", says John Hennessey himself. We’re loving the nods to the Dodge Viper too.

Just 250 Mammoth 400s will be available in 2024 and each will feature a numbered engine plaque and ‘signature Hennessey badging’. Time for sport trucks to make a comeback?
