HECK, WHY NOT: MASERATI USES MC12-INSPIRED LIVERIES ON THE SPECIAL EDITION MC20 ICONA AND LEGGENDA

2004: the year The Facebook went online, Toho Studios released Godzilla: Final Wars and GTA: San Andreas hit the consoles. It was also the year Maserati returned to racing to forge an illustrious six-year-long winning streak with the MC12 after 37-year-long break.

And on that tenuous note, the car maker has created the MC20 Leggena and the MC20 Icona to mark the occasion. Heck, why not.

The MC20 was inspired by the MC12 and frankly, if Maser want to clad a couple of special edition versions of its handsome supercar in homage, we’re game. They look quite lovely.

The MC20 Icona has the white and blue livery of the MC12 Stradale, in homage to its 24 Hours of Daytona appearance. The chrome-plated wheels feature a contrasting blue Maserati trident, while iinside, the interior upholstery is black and royal blue with white accents and the Trident embroidered in blue in the headrest.

In a similar fashion, the MC20 Leggenda takes its livery cues from the MC12 GT1, as raced by the Vitaphone Racing team. That means a black and mint colour combo with yellow accents on the grille and doors and black calipers. The interior is more subdued in black with white stitching.

There’s no monster 12-pot MC-inspired engine (unsurprisingly), so customers will have to tolerate the regular MC20’s 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6. 612bhp? How terrible. To make up for it, Maserati is only making 20 of each. Better move fast if you want one.
