THE ENTRY-LEVEL POLESTAR 3 IS A 295BHP REAR-WHEEL-DRIVE EV

The Polestar 3 is now available as a rear-wheel-drive EV, with prices starting from £69,900. No, seventy grand is not a small sum. However, Polestar 'slashed' its prices for the 3 to £76,000 back in March, so comparatively speaking, this one is a cheap(er), drift-happy electric SUV.

Like the dual motor Polestar 3, it has the same 111kWh battery pack which offers 403 miles of official WLTP-certified range. With that single motor making 295bhp and producing 361lb ft torque on the rear axle alone, the Polestar 3 RWD posts a 0-62mph time of 7.8 seconds.

Polestar is keen to point out that – thanks to a Brembo braking system – the 3 is very good at stopping, too, which is reassuring to hear.

The long range RWD 3 also supports up to 250kW power delivery, so charging 10-80 per cent takes about half an hour. The plan is to build the thing in China and the USA, and you can spec one right now. And that spec gives a choice of six body colours, three interior colours and four rims – including some fancy 21in alloys in the Pro Pack. The optional Pilot Pack adds all the driver assist features.

Polestar boss Thomas Ingenlath said: “With the long range single motor Polestar 3 we offer consumers a new entry-point for our flagship electric SUV. The rear-wheel drive configuration fits with our performance focused driving dynamics that make the car stand out in the luxury SUV sector”.
