THIS IS GENESIS’ NEW 1,561BHP VISION GT, AND IT’S A CAR ATTACHED TO A REAR WING

Six months on from unveiling its X Gran Berlinetta Vision Concept to the world, Genesis has sent it to its skunkworks department to gain a more aggressive body kit and even more power. As if the standard thing isn’t wild enough already.

Christened the ‘X Gran Racer VGT’ and unveiled in Busan, the new fighter jet-like wings and splitters are now active and dramatise the already strong ground effects brought on by the flat underbody design.

Even the funky headlights are chiselled to direct more air through and between the deep indentations and amplified side skirts, and right back towards the big new carbon rear wing. We suspect that may make this thing non-road legal.

Particularly because all that clever aerodynamic trickery will be further enhanced by a *big* power jump on from the original Berlinetta Concept: new totals of 1,561bhp and 1,051lb ft of torque for the hybrid ‘Lambda’ V6.

These new gains have been found by Genesis’ incorporation of its ‘electric supercharger’ technology - which is very complicated to explain. But it does mean the Gran Racer redlines at close to 10,000. Should sound good too, then.

The interior is pretty basic, unfortunately - as is to be expected with a hardcore racer of this ilk. Most of the switchgear is slotted along the yoke, which you’ll access from the single (and super thin) bucket seat. Don’t be alarmed by all the scaffolding, either. That’s just there for a bit more safety.

No word on when it’ll be inducted into Gran Turismo 7’s Genesis dealership, but we’re certainly keen on giving it a run up Trial Mountain. We’ll keep you posted…
